Working on it

SUCCESS!  I was down this week and I can't believe it.  I had ZERO veggies this weekend but I did work out.  It must have been all the sweating...it was 99 degrees yesterday and same today!

Stress...the story of my life

Works is NUTS!  I'll be glad when these next few weeks are over!  I'm SWAMPED with open enrollment coming up!!!  Food and exercise have been OK.  Food has been better than exercise but I haven't missed more than one day yet...I won't be able to do any tonight b/c I have about 3 hours worth of work ahead of me but tomorrow is a certainty!  Our community pool opens tomorrow...we are members for this first time and the boys are SO EXCITED!  I can't wait to see Livie in the water and with temps near 90, I'm sure we'll all be in the water at some point this weekend :)

Comparison...

Holy Crap!  I just did a comparison of photos of myself.  The picture on the right is from March 1, 2011.  The picture on the left is from today, May 25, 2011 (approximately 3 months)

My baby!

My Baby, Dominic, is graduating from Pre-K today.  I am headed to his preschool for the ceremony around 11a today.  That will make it for a nutzo day and God knows what I'm going to do for lunch.  I packed a salad and my GM.  Bfast will be my oatmeal with apples and a few nuts.

Speaking of nuts...I went CRAZY on the can of mixed nuts I purchased to put in my oatmeal yesterday.  As a result when I got home I wasn't hungry at all.  I ate half a taco and I decided I needed some veggies so I had a 2nd GM.  Also, I didn't go to Aerobics last night.  I hate admitting that but I didn't.  Something is wrong with my back.  I decided I was going to rest it last night and although it feels a little better today...it definitely isn't perfect.  Tonight I have to bake a pretty intricate cake for Grace's Birthday, a VI Vienna Cake.  We'll see how that works out.

If time allows I plan to walk with the ladies in the neighborhood, but we'll see!  The boys are going to an Orioles Game tonight so it is just Livie and me!  I'm going make my chicken marinara for us and the boys to eat before they head downtown.

New Running Buddy

Running with La is great b/c I am extremely challenged but...I don't feel very good about myself afterwards (nothing to do with her, all me).  Last night we got a break in the storms long enough for Terri (neighbor/friend) and I to hit the road for a quick walk in our "hood".  The sun even ended up coming out.  I asked her 1/2 mile in if she wanted to try to run.  We DID!  We totaled a little over 2 miles and it was GREAT!  We ran for shorter periods of time than I normally run but we did it more frequently.  I really had fun and we talked and it made the time fly by!!!  I'm thrilled!  Yesterday I was BACK on TRACK!  I'm happy with the way I feel and I'm really excited about having someone to run with!  I think I'll hold off on weighing in until next week b/c of my rotten weekend.

I'm working on becoming a Diet Survivor.  This book is going to make a huge impact on my philosophy and hopefully on my relationship with myself.  I'm VERY hard on myself and I'm pretty sure this past weekend I decided to sabotage my goals by eating the way I did.  I'm over it and moving on...

Today I'm back to my GM and Vita Muffin Tops (YUM) with some left over Chinese (beef/broccoli) for lunch.  Dinner tonight will be Tacos :)

That is the end of that!!!

Beginning last week I started a downward slope that started with not packing lunch and ended with eating out WAY TOO MUCH!  My exercise was pitiful and I ate like crap!  That is the end of that!!! 

I'm back on track starting today.  I've packed and I'm walking at lunch as well as tonight on the trail with my girls.  Tomorrow is aerobics and Wednesday will be a little nuts so I'll have to make sure I walk on the treadmill.  I am also back to my vitamuffin tops.  The double chocolate ones are amazing and they are only 100 calories and packed with Fiber.  This will be my breakfast and for lunch I've packed a lean cuisine and a salad.  Snacks are triscuits and cheese and an apple.  Dinner tonight is a question mark??  I want to roast some chicken with tomatoes but I'm not sure it will be thawed enough.

Just because I have to document it somewhere...the trouble for this week started with Wednesday.  Grace and I got Indian food (ate too much) for lunch.  Thursday I ate out at Poulet and got General Tso chicken (bleck).  Friday night we ate at a local seafood restaurant and I got a crabcake YUM and ate TOO MUCH of the home made rolls.  Saturday I had sushi for lunch and dinner was a few french fries (yuck).  Yesterday we went to a baby shower and I ate a huge plate of all kinds of food then I started stuffing cream puffs in my mouth like they were grapes!  WTH?!?!  I don't know what I was thinking.  Dinner last night we ordered some chinese food and I ate and ate and ate.  We had left over Lo Mein so I decided at 8p to kill the rest of that.  ICK!  I don't know what I was thinking.  I never eat at night and I wasn't even hungry.  Oh well, I've made my bed and I'll lie in it!  I did run/walk on Saturday night but nada yesterday.  You know what?!?  After reading about my food weekend, I didn't do so badly but I do feel rotten and I did eat too much and as a result, gained weight.  Good thing is that is over!  Time to move on!!!

I'm also trying to get through Diet Suvivors Handbook.  I know it will help me so much.  I just can't find the time to read it.  I'll work on it this week!!!

Driving

Last night's plan for dinner and walking was a bust!  We took DJ's sister's car back to her in Bowie.  SO FAR!  Actually it only took us about an hour and a half.  Then we ate at a BBQ place.  I got a pulled turkey sandwich that was sub par.  The turkey was tough.  I only ate about half of it.  The side dish I chose was a black bean and roasted corn salad.  It was pretty good and very low in calories!  I was also planning to walk with the ladies in my neighborhood last night but that didn't happen b/c we didn't get home until after 8:30p :(

All in all we had a great night...my plans for a healthy evening just went down the tubes.  Good thing I'm a roll with the punches kinda gal :) 

I finally got chosen to participate in a McCormick's taste test.  Today I will earn $50 for 45 minutes and we're testing bullion...should be interesting.  I'm going with Grace :)  I have NO clue what will be for lunch.  Dinner tonight will be pasta and I'll pick up a salad. 

Time to get to work...swamped!!!!

Do the "skinny" Girl ROCK!

I changed the words of the song...and I'm so freakin excited.  I lost 1.5lbs this week!!!!!!! So that takes me down to 217.5.  Looking at goals, I technically have 7.5 to go to June 1st (unreasonable, I think) and 17.5 to Ireland (5 weeks from now, also unreasonable) but I'm not really that worried about it!!!  I'm just excited I keep losing.  I'm sure my success this week had alot to do with my workout step up.  confession: I skipped Aerobics again last night :(  I couldn't leave my squishy baby...she is so freaking cute!!!  I did run/walk 2 miles so that was good :)  After my killer run with La on Saturday...I have really stepped up my nightly run/walk.  I don't want to be as whimpy as I was last Saturday...this Saturday when she kills me again!  :)  I'm so happy to have her helping to motivate me, obviously it is paying off!!!  WOOT!

This is so different from EVERY other way I've ever lived my adult life.  I have always ALWAYS ALWAYS been obsessed with dieting and my weight.  I'm sure that is why I'm in the predicament I'm in now...However, this time is totally different.  I am really enjoying this new lifestyle.  I love eating well and not feeling stuffed and gross.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE my green monster.  I eat everything I really love to eat, just in moderation.  I have started to really think about portion control and noticing when I'm full.  I have also added exercise to my daily routine.  I can't say that this is my favorite part but I do it b/c I feel good afterwards and I KNOW this is what is making my weight loss possible. 

Breakfast today was my normal Wednesday treat...Dunkin Coffee with a flatbread egg white sandwich :)  YUM!  Wednesday is odd b/c I spend the day traveling to all of our buildings for Healthbeat so I treat myself to a yummy bfast.  Then for lunch today, Grace and I are going to a new Indian restaurant called Cafe Spice.  I'm excited to try it.  It is a buffet which I normally say is a BAD IDEA but with Indian food, I know I'll stop when I'm full because it is SO spicy :)  I'll have the tums ready.

Tonight I'm gonna make my Chicken Marinara...super simple.  I just take 1lb of chicken breast with a can of crushed tomatoes some motz cheese and breadcrumbs and throw it together, bake at 350 for 40 minutes and voila!  I usually roast some potatoes to go with it and we'll have a salad :)  I may even throw some spinach in it tonight.

Tonight is a walking night with the ladies in my neighborhood...Fun Fun!

Fruit Loop...

I'm a Fruit Loop!!!  I totally forgot to weigh in this morning.  I realized it when I was already dressed and said, forget it!  I'll weigh in tomorrow!!! 

Last night's PTA meeting for our new school was interesting.  I really LOVE our new principal, she has a GREAT sense of humor and I can't wait for the boys to start at a new school.  I say interesting b/c it looks like my boys may be "walkers".  This is bizarre b/c we live just under a mile from the new school, which is quite a hike for a 5 and 7 year old.  Oh well, that means I'll just have to bust it to get out of here by 3 on the button to pick them up as car riders!  We did get into the before school care program for next year (which didn't have room for Mason last year).  We have 2 this year so we'll have to foot the bill for about $300/month, but it is good to not have to worry about it!

My mom leaves tonight for Myrtle Beach to attend the 3rd wedding of my aunt Rox (her youngest sister).  That means Nana will be coming down from PA tonight and staying with us until Friday.  Dinners will be interesting but I do plan on cooking each night.  Nana may offer to take us out to eat but I think we'll have to try to pass on that b/c of the calories alone!!!  The boys are excited to spend some QT with DJ's mom!!

Let's see...Food?!?  Bfast today will be GM and my oatmeal mixture.  Then lunch will be spaghetti from Sunday night (whole wheat pasta) and a salad.  Dinner tonight will either be taco's or pizza from seasons pizza...bleck!  Mason's school at Hickory is having a fundraiser night at Season's pizza and he really wants to go.  We may swing by but ick...I don't want greasy pizza tonight!!!

Then I get to go to Aerobics tonight!  I'm ready for Diane to kick my butt!!!!!!  Come on Core Work!!!!

Eek!!! Where have I been?!?!

So I had a GREAT end of the week last week and a really great Weekend!!!  We ate a little crazy this weekend but let's see..What did I do?

Friday night we celebrated Dom's birthday (5 years old, CRAZY) with Tacos and ice cream sandwich cake.  I had a Taco Salad with some light salsa ranch dressing (just mixed light ranch with Pace salsa) and one crunchy taco (b/c I wanted one) :)  Then I had a little piece of ice cream sandwich cake (yummmmm) Dom was so excited by his birthday prize - a netbook!! He is so adorable!!!  Due to cleaning and then people...I didn't get to run but that's alright b/c I made up for that on Saturday!

Holy Crap, La kicked my butt!!!  I mentioned to my girlfriend Lauren (la) that she could motivate me to run more than I normally do.  Sidebar: I've backed out of C25k b/c the next step was RUN 2 MILES!!  Are they nuts?!?!  So I'm working back up to it.  I usually run for about a mile broken by about a mile of walking.  Well Saturday morning I decided it would be a good idea to invite La to run with me on the Ma Pa trail.  Well...she kicked my butt!!!!!  We ran the majority of the trail (total 3.5 miles) and I was dying.  My lungs felt like they were bleeding and I was coughing like crazy.  Clearly I need to step up my game!  I decided I was going to rock it all week so that next weekend, I'm not such a wimp :)  We also ate out for dinner at Silver Spring Mining Company.  I got a chicken wrap with some crab dip it was good and I only ate half with a baked potato with some salsa on top. 

Sunday, we went out to breakfast then church.  The boys spent the night with Mom Mom and Poppy Saturday night so it was just Livie/DJ and me!  We had a nice morning then I went to a 31 purse party at La's house.  I had a couple glasses of wine and some yummy snacky appetizers.  I had a couple of mini cookies and dip but all in all I think I did well food wise.  When I got home the boys were hungry so I made spaghetti for them and had a few bites but packaged the rest for the freezer (dinner later this week). 

Last night after I put Livie to sleep (around 7:30) I decided I wanted to go for a run.  I headed out and realized that a storm was brewing.  I was pretty sure I could make it back before the rain....so out I went.  I headed out for my 2 mile run/walk.  I decided I was going to run to a timer b/c I'll cheat distance but I won't cheat a timer.  Where I'll stop running a little before the end of a distance goal...I will run straight until the timer goes off (at least I know my limitations, LOL).  So I set my timer for 10 minutes and took off at a pretty good pace.  I was thrilled at how easily I was able to do it.  After the buzzer went off I started to walk for a bit.  After about 30 seconds of walking the heavens opened up and God unleased his furry in the form of a DOWNPOUR!  I still had about 3/4 of a mile to get home...I just started running and laughing!!!  I was drenched when I got home.  My hair was dripping and I looked like I had been in a wet t-shirt contest :)  It was pretty comical!  But I ran basically a total of 20 minutes without stopping!!!  THIS WAS A HUGE breakthrough and I have the rain to thank for it (and La)!!!

Tonight I have a PTA meeting at our new school so run/walking is out.  I will just have to make up for it tomorrow.  Dinner tonight will probably be the tilapia florentine from Poulet (last week) and some brown rice with broccoli.  Lunch today was a bit of the left over wrap I had Saturday night and a salad. 

My new breakfast is 1/2 C Irish Oats, 1/2 Apple (diced) and 1/8 C. Mixed nuts.  I mix it all together with some water and microwave it!  YUM!!!  and of course my GM!  I'm so happy I've turned new people on to the GM!  I hope everyone loves it as much as I do :)

confession...

I didn't go to aerobics last night...I know bad April!  I just didn't want to leave Livie Lou last night.  She was so snuggely and I just didn't feel like leaving her for over an hour of her waking hours.  Instead, when she went to bed I ran/walked 2 miles.  It felt good!!  I only have 2 more aerobics classes and I will be SURE not to miss the rest! 

Last night we decided to go out to dinner b/c I wasn't feeling like cooking and Dom wanted to be sang to :)  He will be 5 tomorrow...yikes!  I got a turkey burger (bad choice) but got a salad instead of fries (Good choice).  This is why I need to be a diet survivor.  I HAVE to stop thinking of food as Bad and Good!

Lunch today was a lean cuisine and small salad.  Healthbeat Meeting days are my least nutritious days...isn't that bizarre?  I spend the whole day talking to people about eating right and making good choices but since I'm SO busy all day, I eat like crap myself...bizarre!  I also never drink enough on Wednesdays (same reason)  But today I brought a bottle of water to hydrate between meetings.

Walking Walking Walking

Terri and Julie (neighbors) decided we should start walking during the week.  LOVING IT!!!  We had so much fun last night walking on the ma pa trail.  We did 3.5 miles and it felt great!!! 

Last night for dinner was SPAGHETTI!!  This is a big deal b/c we haven't really eaten pasta in my house in about 3+ months.  CRAZY!  I used whole grain pasta and my sauce from scratch (super simple)...here is what I did: 
What?
  • 5 cloves of garlic (through press)
  • 1/2 small yellow onion
  • 2 sweet Italian turkey sausage links, squeezed from casings
  • 1/2 C. White Wine (optional)
  • large can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 C. parm cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1/4 C. Splenda
How?
  • In large skillet saute onions til soft and add garlic and sausage. 
  • Brown the sausage like it were ground beef (squeeze it from the casing).
  • add wine and bring to a boil, simmer for 10 minutes til reduced by half.
  • Add the remaining ingredients bring to a boil then cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
Yum!!!  I should take a picture next time!
Pretty healthy, I don't know the stats (nor do I care)

I'm getting ready to start a great book: The Diet Survivor's Handbook:...by Judith Matz and Ellen Frankel.  I can't wait to read it.  It is all about creating a healthy relationship with food and intuitive eating which I'm siked to learn more about!!! 

I want to lose 9lbs by June 1st...pushing it!  But we'll see..

Open Enrollment...

Eeeek!!  This is my crazy time of year.  I have to get everything ready for Open Enrollment and the Health and Wellness Fair...I hope to get back to my regularly scheduled blogging at some point in the near future :)

This weekend was crazy with Mother's day.  I actually had a pretty good "eating" weekend and woke up Saturday .5 down from last Tuesday.  However...I am up today (weird).  My weight has been fluctuating alot lately.  I will be walking at some point today and walking with the ladies tonight.  Can't wait!!!

Lunch today is left over chicken and shrimp kabobs from Mother's day and a salad.  Bfast is the normal and dinner tonight will probably be spaghetti.  I'm in the mood to get back to some pasta.  A little!!!  We haven't had pasta in a few months.  Alright...I have to get back to this crazy work...TTFN

Long Weekend...

Goodness, when did I post last?!?

Today the demon scale did me good!!! :)  219.5 WOOT!  I'm really excited.  I desperately want to be below 210 by June 1st.  It is getting harder to lost the lbs...but I'll keep pushing!  Food has been a little nutzo.  This weekend was crazy, let's see...
  • Friday night was my pampered chef party - success!  We had a great time and had some yummy snacks (listed a few days ago) and wine :)
  • Saturday was breakfast with my rents, where I got an egg/bacon wrap (only ate half) and a few bites of pancakes.  Lunch was Subway on our way to Beauty Bash at QVC (amazing).  And dinner was a bento box consisting of miso soup, ginger salad, salmon terriaki, sashimi, california roll, brown rice and some shumi.  It was delish and not too bad calories wise!
  • Sunday was a LAZY day...I had english muffin and GM for bfast, we had some sushi for lunch and dinner was the poulet bourbon chicken I had picked up on Thursday.  With the bourbon chicken I had some roasted veggies. 
Exercise wise...I only ran on Sunday night, I didn't do specific activities on Friday or Saturday but I did walk all over QVC (a couple of miles) and on Friday I marathon cleaned my house...scrubbed all floors, windows, bathroom, you name it...I'm sure this counts for something.

Anyway you slice it I rocked out the scale this morning.  I was worried about the outcome based on the easter candy I forgot to mention above that was consumed through the whole weekend.  ICK!

Finally yesterday was Monday, back to work means back to the routine right?!?  WRONG.  Idiot I am I forgot my magic bullet base so there was no morning GM for April.  Instead I had it in the afternoon.  For lunch I had some hummus and pita along with a salad from the Wegman's salad bar, pretty delish but somehow I ate so much I was STUFFED.  I haven't been stuffed in a LONG time and it didn't feel good.  I took some tums and only had one piece of pizza (I'd made) last night.  Then I took a long walk.
